Who doesn’t love Piglet, whose ears are always aquiver with excitement?

My Nuimo Piglet is one of my favorite travel companions, and right now his ears are aquiver to be sporting a custom-made Santa coat!

Last week I was browsing the Christmas aisles of a Dollar General with a friend and she showed me some adorable Santa coat ornaments. Wait—those are the PERFECT size for Piglet!!! They won’t be ornaments for long!!!

I could hardly wait to get home and open the package.  The ornaments are red fabric with white fur trim around the arms and front of the coat.  A black belt with a gold buckle completes the look.

A first try to fit the coat over Piglet’s head left him shivering with fear—his sweet little head was far too big for the tiny opening.  I had no choice but to take the scissors to the back of the coat and open it up that way for an easier fit on poor Piglet.

The coat was a perfect fit, though the arms are a little long.  Next step was to create a cleaner look on the back opening and provide a base for some Velcro “snaps.”  I knew I would be doing this tailoring job while on an airplane, so I brought ribbon to use as seam binding, Velcro pieces, thread, straight pins and needles.  With just some easy mending skills, I created a finished look for the back of Piglet’s coat.

He has worn it to several parks and resorts, and received many compliments on it. Here is a picture of the finished product.  Perhaps you can make one for your Nuimo too!
